Editing and Prooofreading
In the Summer of 2023, I served as an editorial intern for Can of Worms Books, a trade fiction publishing house based in London, England. My work included line editing the manuscript of Electric Ice, an 80,000-word novel that was later published in late 2024. I was also a proofreader for three other titles published by Can of Worms.
Acquisitions Editing
During my tenure as an editorial intern with Can of Worms Books, I also assisted with the company's U.S. branch, Leap Frog Press. Leap Frog Press holds a yearly open submissions contest in Adult Fiction and YA/Middle-Grade Fiction. I was tasked with drafting a shortlist. The top of my shortlist in both categories matched the final decision by the contest judges.
Copy Editing
I worked as an editorial assistant for the 2024 edition of The James Joyce Literary Supplement. During this time, I crafted a simple in-house style guide for the press. I also contributed to proofreading and copyediting book reviews, conference reports, thought pieces, and "In Memorium" tributes.
Portfolio Project Edit
The following is an extended transmittal letter crafted for another student's final portfolio. I and my three teammates did a substantial edit of our client's portfolio. The transmittal letter is mainly focused on editing for navigation, organization, and page design, as the content chosen by our client showed her expertise and experience quite well.
Resume and Cover Letter Edit
Displayed here is a transmittal letter for a substantive edit of a resume and cover letter. The transmittal letter includes suggestions for organizational editing. By moving certain line items higher on the page, the client is able to more readily display their most relevant skills and experiences.
